Who We Are
At DCANTER, we’re more than a wine shop—we’re a community. We specialize in artisanal, organic, and sustainable wines from small producers around the world, and we’re passionate about creating joyful moments of discovery for our customers. We combine technology and hospitality to make wine buying simple, fun, and highly personalized---whether through our boutique, our online shop, or our one-of-a-kind Concierge by DCANTER service.
Our Core Values
At DCANTER, everything we do is guided by our values:
- Partners in Wine - We work collaboratively, with our customers and with each other, to make wine more approachable, enjoyable, and meaningful. As trusted advisors to our clients and teammates alike, we share knowledge, offer support, and strive to create experiences that are both thoughtful and personal. Whether recommending a bottle or solving a business challenge, we show up with a spirit of partnership and shared success.
- Always Approachable - We create an environment, internally and externally, where questions are welcomed, ideas are heard, and people feel comfortable seeking guidance. For our customers, this means accessible service and honest, friendly advice. For our team, it means building trust, fostering open communication, and being available to one another with consistency and care.
- Infuse Joy and Cheer - We believe that wine is about connection, enjoyment, and discovery. That same energy applies to how we work together---celebrating wins, maintaining a positive attitude, and bringing joy to the day-to-day. We deliver warm, memorable experiences to our customers and cultivate a workplace that reflects the same values of enthusiasm and hospitality.
- Speak and Listen with Intentionality - We communicate with clarity, empathy, and purpose. For our customers, this means we listen to their needs, ask the right questions, and provide informed, relevant guidance. Within our team, it means giving and receiving feedback respectfully, aligning on goals, and supporting each other through direct and constructive dialogue.
- Game Changers - We innovate. We push boundaries. We challenge the status quo in wine retail by combining creativity with execution. As a team, we stay curious, solution-oriented, and open to change. We are always looking for ways to improve our customer experience, our internal processes, and the business as a whole.
- Live, Inspire, and Nurture our Brand - We are ambassadors of the DCANTER experience. We continuously expand our wine knowledge, embody our values, and take pride in delivering excellence. Whether representing the brand with clients, on social media, or in everyday interactions, we lead by example and uphold the standard of who we are and what we believe in.
If these values resonate with you, you’ll feel right at home here.

Sales Associate (Full-Time)
We’re looking for Sales Associates (full-time) to join our small but mighty team! Think of this as the utility player of the store—someone who thrives on variety and is excited to jump in wherever they’re needed most. One moment you might be helping a customer find the perfect wine for their dinner party, the next moment you’re stocking inventory, supporting a tasting event, running a delivery, or helping with marketing and Concierge projects. This is a hands-on role with plenty of moving parts—literally. It’s a physical job that involves lifting cases, stocking shelves, and keeping the store looking beautiful. But it’s also about creating meaningful experiences for our customers and being part of a team that’s building something special.
What You’ll Do
- Welcome customers with warmth and enthusiasm, and help them find wines they’ll love
- Act as a multitasker extraordinaire across various functional areas:
- Sales: Educate and guide customers, pour tastings, and promote DCANTER’s services
- Operations: Receive, stock, and organize inventory; keep the store sparkling
- Concierge: Help prep and fulfill orders, write tasting notes, and run deliveries
- Marketing: Assist with special marketing projects, provide promotional support like updating chalkboard/menu sign, refreshing in-store program displays, helping with social media engagement
- Process sales transactions with accuracy and care
- Assist with public and private client wine events
- Handle opening and closing procedures when scheduled
- Obtain and maintain an ABC manager’s license
- Jump in wherever needed—because teamwork makes the dream work
What We’re Looking For
- Bachelor’s degree strongly preferred
- Wine certification (WSET, SWE, or sommelier training) is a big plus
- Previous retail experience (wine industry experience = bonus points)
- Tech-comfortable: you know your way around Apple products, POS systems, and e-commerce platforms
- A natural communicator with a customer-first mindset
- Passionate about wine, curious to learn more, and excited to share that knowledge
- Reliable, flexible, and eager to roll up your sleeves
- At least 21 years old with a valid driver’s license (for deliveries)
The Physical Stuff
- You’ll be lifting and moving cases (up to 40 lbs)
- Expect plenty of trips up and down stairs
- You’ll be on your feet a lot (good shoes are a must!)
- Deliveries will take you out throughout DC and Northern VA
The Perks
- $45,000 - $55,000 competitive pay (based on experience)
- Health insurance (for full-time employees)
- 401K with employer match
- Paid time off
- Assistance toward wine certifications
- Generous employee wine discounts
- Growth opportunities with a company that’s expanding
Why You’ll Love It Here
At DCANTER, you’ll be part of a close-knit team that’s passionate about wine, committed to exceptional customer experiences, and guided by values that matter. If you’re looking for a role where no two days are the same—and where you can learn, grow, and have fun along the way—this could be the perfect fit.
Role Evolution
DCANTER is a growing company, and as we continue to evolve, roles may grow and shift along with business and team needs. From time to time, this job description may be updated to reflect those changes. Any adjustments will be communicated clearly, and we welcome open conversation as responsibilities evolve.
